I have always had an obsession with ‘interiors’, not just the way they are aesthetically, but how they make you feel, the way they function and the emotional reaction we have to them.
Once things came to a natural close for my sustainable womenswear business - Poppy Voon, in 2023, I decided to pursue my passion for interior design by immersing myself in the industry. After two years of working and studying in the field, I began to look for a way that I could blend my love for interior design with my continued commitment to sustainability and quality.
Unfortunately the world as we know it today, is a constant stream of trends screaming at us to keep on top of them. I would love to challenge the idea of ‘what is in and what is out’ and instead think about ‘what feels right?’ and ‘what is special?’.
Born from a desire to naturally enhance the spaces we live in, General Aesthetic seeks to alleviate trends and heavy consumerism, and inspire us to reset to our natural instincts.
All of our handwoven products have had the utmost thought and care put into them, right from the picking of the cotton to its place in your home.
Made from Fair Trade certified organic cotton, each individual thread has been plant dyed from plants such as patana oak, tumeric, Indian persimon, indigo and so many more creating the rich, earthy colours woven into every piece.
After the yarn has been died it is handwoven by skilled artisans in Cambodia's Takeo Provence where the women manually pass the shuttle from side to side, weaving every thread by hand.
We use Wisewool to fill our cushions — a beautiful, natural wool sourced from family farms in the Gisborne region. Wisewool partners closely with local growers who care deeply for their land and animals, creating a traceable, sustainable fibre that reflects our core values.
Wool’s natural breathability helps regulate temperature and moisture, keeping cushions comfortable in all seasons. Its spring-like structure also allows the filling to recover easily, maintaining shape and support over time.
Linen is made from the flax plant, a naturally sustainable crop that grows with minimal water and little to no pesticides when farmed in its native climate. The entire plant is used in the process, leaving almost no waste.
Known for its strength and longevity, linen only gets softer with time, making it a lasting choice for the home.
All of our textile homewares are made in
Pnhom Penh, Cambodia. We work with a collective that equips vulnerable women to help them break the cycle of poverty in their lives and families.
We are actively involved with working alongside these women to provide them with the training and mentoring needed to further develop their skills in design and provide them with new opportunities
